Drug lord says drugs are not good
Curtis Warren is the only drug dealer to ever appear on the Sunday Times rich list. What makes Curtis Warren so different from the average 50-year-old drug baron is that he is teetotal, touching neither drugs nor alcohol. He even says that drugs are “just not good”.
Warren has spent most of the last 17 years in jail and is currently serving a 13-year sentence after being found guilty of plotting to smuggle £1 million of cannabis into Jersey in 2007. He spent 12 years in a Dutch prison after being caught importing 317kg of cocaine into Holland and possessing MDMA, cannabis, hand grenades, guns, and CS canisters.
He is currently fighting an attempt by a Jersey court to seize around £198 million in assets he has allegedly amassed during his time trafficking drugs all around the world, although he says that there is no money left.
Warren spoke with the Liverpool Echo about his days trafficking drugs. When asked if he was really anti-drugs, he replied: “Yeah. Believe it or not. It’s just not good, is it? Bloody hell, I’ve never had a cigarette in me life, or a drink. I’ve never tasted alcohol or anything. No interest.”
Anthony Barraclough is a British barrister who has been serving Warren for many years. Mr Barraclough has spoken about how his client polices the prison corridors, stamps out bullying and helps to stop drug abuse in prison.
Today Warren reads case law from his prison cell and says that he would have become a lawyer if he could turn back time, not a drug dealer. His final remark in the interview was simply: “I just wish I’d not been such a worry to me mum.”
